Muench Family Papers 1848-1875

Born in Bavaria in 1833, Martin Muench immigrated to Texas in 1853 and settled in San Antonio the following year. He became a prominent merchant in San Antonio and served as a city alderman. Muench was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1869. He died in San Antonio between 1880 and 1887 and was survived by his wife and eight children. The Muench Family Papers contain legal documents and financial records, primarily deeds recording transactions involving several tracts of land in the San Antonio, Texas, area. Many of the transactions involve Martin Muench. Other names mentioned include I. A. Paschal and Joseph Ulrich.

Born in Lexington, Georgia, Isaiah Addison Paschal (1808-1868) was admitted to the bar in 1830. Three years later he moved to Louisiana, where he served on a circuit court and as a legislator. Paschal moved to San Antonio in 1845, where he continued to practice law until being elected to the Texas legislature in 1857. Born in Bavaria (Germany) in 1833, Martin Muench immigrated to Texas in 1853. The following year he arrived in San Antonio, where he married Prussian Margareta Gimbel (1836-1924) in 1858 March.
